NET and SET are qualifying exam for lectureship whereas, PhD. is a research programme. Talking about better option or the best option, I would suggest you to appear for NET examination and option for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) at the time of application. After qualifying as lecturer, you can go for PhD. and will receive allowances through UGC JRF. So, along with the eligibility to be a lecturer, you will be able to get financial support for your PhD programme. This will enable you to continue your higher studies and make a bright future out of it.
