Will it be good to drop a year to score good in JEE Mains or should I take polytechnic after 12th to get admission for B.Tech?

I recommend taking a drop. Because few colleges don't accept Diploma (polytechnic) students into 2nd year. So, your options after polytechnic will be limited.
