    Some colleges do ask for your 12th class performance.

    Yes, there are many colleges where you get admission through 12th boards
    but, if you want to join top reputed colleges then qualifying that entrance is the only choice.

    The entrance exam of the university holds the most importance here. After you are through it, during the personal interview, better 10th, and 12th scores do help but it does not give admission into the college apart from the basic requirement of 50% marks in 12th class.

    There are some colleges which may give you admission without entrance exams but these type colleges are not so good and degree will not help you getting good job .
