I am currently in final year B.Tech Biotechnology and in terms of pursuing biotech, Thapar is great as it has great labs and some really great faculty members. Along with this, there are a lot of tie ups and grabs for research work.
As for the placements in India there aren't many options. But, the options that are there are very good like, biocon or serum.
As in for abroad, there is a great scope because outside of India, biotech is already booming and has a great grip over many parts be it medical or manufacturing or food industry.

Well, B.Tech Biotechnology from Thapar is a pretty good option. It is one of the best alternatives for the medical students (who are not going for MBBS) as they have UG, PG and even PhD to offer. They have received NBA Accreditation and the selection procedure is through NEET score. Biotech has more scope in abroad than India. One can actually pursue their career in research. Thapar University is one of the best university. Campus, placements, academics are so good. The scope of this branch is good in India and abroad, so your choice of branch and college is good.

Tuition only (without hostel, mess, etc.):
• Around ₹9.7 L to ₹20.8 L total for the full 4-year B.Tech, depending on your branch.

Full estimated cost with everything included (hostel, mess, development, other charges):
• Most sources show the total 4-year B.Tech cost ranging roughly from ₹2.8 M to ₹3.1 M (₹27.9 L-₹31.3 L). This includes tuition, hostel, mess and other fees.

So in short, tuition itself is about ₹10 L-₹21 L for the whole degree, and with hostel and mess costs added, the total goes closer to ₹28 L-₹31 L for four years.

1. Check Eligibility
For B.Tech/BE:
• You need Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Mathematics and one of Chemistry/Biology/Biotech/Technical Vocational. General candidates usually need 60% or more (55% for SC/ST) in these subjects.

2. Take the Entrance Exam
JEE Main is the primary route. Most seats (especially in top branches like CSE/ECE) are filled based on JEE Main rank.

• Some seats may also be filled based on Class 12 marks (board merit), but for many popular branches only JEE Main counts now.

3. Apply Online
• Go to the official TIET admissions portal and fill the application form for the year you're applying (UG 2026-27).
