Many a times its seen that candidates in G/D push themselves to say something,
So, it is very necessary to listen others carefully,
Don't feel inferior in accepting others view if it is correct,
If we feel others going wrong(Opposite of our view) place our view in most polite manner
Don't keep on placing views one after one, present ourselves in decent manner so that others can understand us well (Try to make our views short and sweet)
Keep smiling, be confident. because as we know a discussion is all aboutPROVIDE INFORMATION, PROCESS INFORMATION & USE INFORMATION in its best…

Hi, each and every expert has suggested their view points, which are absolutely to the point and required. I can only add that, GD is basically judging the candidates leadership quality and out of the box thinking abilities and Personal interviews are for judging listening and speaking abilities along with lateral thinking.
Candidates need to look fresh and smiling at the time of GD and PI as opportunity to impress interviewer is very limited.

Based on below parameters students are assessed, so care should be taken during GD.
    1. Try to make an entry within the first two to three minutes.
    2. Be calm.
    3. Do not cut others unnecessarily.
    4. Come up with relevant points.
    5. If you do not have sufficient points then try to build on other's points.
    6. Listen carefully to the others.
    7. Do not repeat the same points said by others.
    8. Try to logically connect the points said by others and reach a logical conclusion.
    9. Be assertive but not aggressive.
    10. Maintain eye contact with others while speaking.
    11. Do not look at the panel
    12. Do not start the GD if you do not have sufficie

    Well,
The two main aspects of a group discussion are:
What is learned: factual material as well as the process of working in a groupWhat is produced: presentation
Participating in a group discussion gives you a chance to:
Formulate your own ideasTry opinions out and develop your own critical facultyAsk questions arising from lectures, your reading of a text or critical materialGet to grips with subject with help from your peers and your tutorGet to know other people
Well, nobody knows what will be asked during GD or PI it is just guess work and a very clear approach and clarity of the subject only can bring success.
    One need to understand th

Aided with qualifications and mutli faceted job related profiles candidates are all of the cream variety. Group discussions once more separates the cream group and makes them eligible for further rounds of tests so as to be chosen in an accurate career position.

aru.chopra absolutely taking the lead in initiating the discussion is good, but at the same time students in the groups should give chance to every one in a group to speak, group discussion is not only about giving one's view, but its is also listening to others view as well.

Group discussion is the place where your leadership skills and co-operative nature will be checked in depth and the best to take the lead is to try initiating the group discussion.

All the major and minors of GD and PI are discussed above by the experts but I think one major point left is GROUP BEHAVIOR. That means DOES the candidate considers him/herselfa part of the group or DOES he/she's there merely to compete.

    A lil bit addition
Dos of participating in a GD:
    Listen to the subject carefully
Initiate the discussion if you know the subject well
Listen to others if you don't know the subject
Support your point with some facts and figures
Give others a chance to speak
    Speak politely and pleasantly.
Disagree politely and agree with what is right.
Summarize the discussion if the group has not reached a conclusion.
Don'ts of participating in a GD:
Initiate the discussion if you do not have sufficient knowledge about the given topic.
Over speak, intervene and snatch other's chance to speak.
Argue and shout during the GD
Look at the evaluators or a particular gr
