JSS Medical College, located in Mysuru, began operations in 1984–1985 and currently offers an MBBS programme. It is approved by the Medical Council of India and was connected to Bangalore's Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences from 1995 to 1996. As of May 28, 2008, it was a constituent college of JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, which was founded in accordance with Section 3 of the UGC Act.
The JSS Medical College has established the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine and the Centre for Clinical Research Excellence (CCRE), which has been approved as a collegium of the Clinical Development Services Agency (CDSA), to support various research activities and clinical trials. These initiatives are supported by the JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research and the Vision group of Science and Technology (Government of Karnataka). The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, ICMR, DST, DBT, VGST (Government of India), JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, and other funding organisations have all supported research grants that faculty members have been successful in receiving. The Swedish Karolinska Institutet, Latrobe University in Melbourne, the Swedish Heart Lung Foundation, and other international institutions have all worked together on a number of projects.
To perform high-quality research and publish work that meets worldwide standards, the institution collaborates with a number of top international universities, including the National Institutes of Health in the UK, the Mayo Clinic in the USA, and Khon Khaen University in Thailand. In indexed journals of high calibre, more than 530 scientific publications are published each year. The institution has established a student research cell to encourage undergraduate students to conduct research, and through this cell, students are given the necessary training to secure funding for their research projects and publish their findings. Faculty members as well as graduate and undergraduate students have presented their research at national and international academic conferences and have taken home numerous awards.
