Astrology is more than a science. in tamilnadu annamalai, sastra, & karpagam - these 3 universities are having distance education or regular education programmes in astrology. in andhra pradesh potti sreeraamulu telugu university, tirupathi venkateswara university and some more north indian universities are also offering programmes in astrology either through distance or regular education.

If astrology is a science, then why not universities giving out degrees in Astrology (say, Bachelor of Astrology). Whys is it that in spite of being derived from most ancient knowledge, it is not taught in universities as a degree course. Whereas relatively new subjects such as computer science or electronics is taught as a degree course (Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics). Anybody?
The fact is Astrology looks back to advance itself and does not look forward. Today we have scientific equipment and techniques to precisely calculate the position of planets, and time but still Astrological predictions remains as unpredictable as ever.

It's a general thought that after completing an astrology course, job prospects are less. Again, you don't find women astrologers in plenty and this has made the impression that astrology is not for women!!!. Agreed ?

I would completely agree with Nikhlesh that Astrology is a subject worth studying. Although frankly speaking it would be difficult to earn your bread and butter through this but not in all the cases, it really depend your level of knowledge, if you really have indepth knowledge of the subject then definitely you can earn handsomely even through astrology.

Well I guess commenting over astrology will involve a lot what you believe in and this would differ from person to person.
For me Astrology is entirely Science with a mix of Art in it; which includes the study of planets and the positions along with a lot of calculations to follow.
Its certainly a very good subject to pursue.

Yes Nikhilesh, I completely agree with you. Having come from the family who believe in astrology and the scientific reason behind each aspect i understand your perspective. Yep, the reaction under different temperatures and pressure gives varied results. That is the reason why we always use under normal temperature and pressure , PV is equivalent to rt and avoid using the term exactly equal to.
Thanx for explaining the scientific implications of astrology. This may be explored further to encourage more students take up courses and reason using the scientific thought.

Yup , Nikhilesh, i too vouch for that. every single person on this earth has different rashi cakras as unique as thumb impressions. Just like some traits of personality are similar between some persons, some traits are common between persons of similar stars. If I belong to kumbha with Dhanishta 4 then i may have similarities with some other Dhanista person but again depends on the lagna or the actual planet that is ruling t the time of birth. For those, who consider astrology as fun, it might sound illogical but if one studies astrology seriously then they would understand how much of logical and mathematical precision is needed. I'm

Indians believe in 11 planets (rahu and Ketu) being the 11th and 12th. It's the Indians who have established to the world that the earth is sphere and not a flat body(Source .Brahmadatta , Aryabhttiyam) and it has a gravitational force. While commenting about the equation e=mc2, Albert Einstein quoted verses from Upanishads. Those who have studied quantum mechanics , movement of electrons in an atom must have come across this. Astrology is just not about horoscopes. The naming of the months, seasons. chaitra, vaishak- vasant Ritu, Jyest, Aashhad.,Greeshm and finally maagh, Phalun. shishir ritu. Yes Astrology is a definitely science and therefore should be considered as a separate subject in higher education. Infact it can be taken up as a subject at graduation level also. Why it is a science - there are several reasons for it. One of the logics is that it involves moving bodies (the planets) and the Sun. The position of planets in one's horoscope shows the postion of a native amongst the planets at the time of the birth.

There are universities which offer advanced courses in astrology not only in South India, but in universities like BHU, Many universities in US have astrology as a discipline and students do come to India as their cultural exchange project(UOH, Mysore university can be quoted as example). In the recent days Astrology has gained popularity because it talks about Yoga, Karana(the the angular momentum of earth with respect to the axis of rotation).

But I learn some universities in South India conduct Astrology courses. There are quite a few astrologers who earn living by conducting certificate and diploma level courses in astrology. How can you ignore them ?

If after such a course you are unable to get a white collar/good job, you should never ask such questions. How much will you earn as an astrological consultant ? Forget about astrology!!!!
