No, to apply for admission to the undergraduate courses in microbiology, you need to have had Science in the 12th grade. Similarly, for postgraduate courses, you need to have a Bachelor's degree in a Science stream. If you had commerce in the 12th grade, you can apply for admission to the NIOS board in Science subjects like Biology Chemistry and Physics. After this, you can pursue a B.Sc. Course in botany, Zoology or a related subject. You can then apply for an M.Sc. In microbiology and a Ph.D. programme.

No, a Commerce student cannot apply for a Microbiology course at the undergraduate level.

Candidates must have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 60% marks in the respective qualifying examination from a recognised educational board. The students must have studied PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Zoology/Botany) as the mandatory subjects in Class 12 or any other equivalent qualifying examination.

The Admission process for some institutions can be subject to entrance tests. The respective institutions conduct these entrance tests at their level.

  • Having a Science background is a must to pursue microbiology courses after 12th, commerce students are not eligible. Eligibility: A minimum of 60% marks in class 12 or equivalent with Science.
