    Yes, of course you can also be an assistant professor and do a Ph.D. simultaneously at some colleges. You can be allowed to teach as an assistant professor and do a Ph.D. simultaneously under the following circumstances:
    1. You've passed the UCG NET exam and qualified for a junior research fellowship.
    2. You want to pursue a Ph.D. in private mode while working as an assistant professor already.
    3. You are a part-time Ph.D. candidate. However, a Ph.D. in itself is very demanding, and you need to focus more on your research. After completing a Ph.D. you can become a lecturer at top universities etc.

    Yes, an assistant professor can do a Ph.D. simultaneously. The minimum eligibility criteria for becoming an Assistant Professor is that the candidate should have passed the post graduation in the respective subjects with 55%marks and have to qualify the NET/Slet qualify. According to the UGC (University Grants Commission), it is not necessary to obtain Ph.D. in India for obtaining the post of assistant professor. It is mandatory only for the post of a Professor.
