It must be your choice depending on your interest. According to me civil engineering is good. The Department of Civil Engineering at SRMUH pulls out all stops to create outstanding engineers with advanced teaching techniques and learning aids for undergraduate students and state of the art research facilities for postgraduate students and doctoral candidates. Students are not only made experts in technical aspects but also in interpersonal skills, a vital ingredient to excel in the fast-paced world. Civil engineering is better because oil and gas company will never go in loss, NTPC will never close. construction will never stop.

If you are pursuing civil engineering from IIT or Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, then it's worthwhile but if not then I would recommend you to go for automobile engineering. Because after IIT, Thapar Institute is the only private institution which can provide better mentorship and career opportunities in civil engineering rest will just make fake promises and this is my personal experience with Thapar. So think wisely and then take the decision.
    All the best!
