How are CV points calculated at IIMs for summer placements?

    Well, CV doesn't have points, it always carries weight. How strong your CV is and how capable you are. The most important thing which will be considered during your placements is your CGPA. Companies will shortlist mostly on the basis of CGPA. There have been times when the list of shortlisted candidates for some of the best firms consisted top 10-20 rank holders of the college (literally). So, no matter what anyone says, CGPA shouldn't be neglected. Especially for high demand jobs like investment banking, CGPA is a deciding factor.

    CV Points are not a thing to be calculated. They are merely bullet points. The achievements in your CV are called CV Points. The question is implying a wrong idea about CV points by thinking them as marks or points calculated on some basis.
    While preparing a summer CV, the points are clustered into different buckets.
    The buckets are classified as:
    Academic/Scholastic Achievements- This includes all the academic achievements/prizes/scholarships you have achieved in school/college. This also includes your rank/position in different entrance examinations, state/ national level competitions, etc.

    What I have read till now about placements in IIMs these facts are pretty clear -
    The most important thing which will be considered for your placements is your CGPA. Companies will short list mostly on the basis of CGPA.     CV is very important for summer placements at IIMs because the shortlist for Interviews or GD (if any) happens purely based on your resume. The resume includes sections such as awards and achievements, Positions of responsibility, extracurricular activities and work experience if any. Freshers can include their internships/projects. All the points added to your resume will undergo a verification process by the placement committee. You will have to produce substantial proofs from the concerned authority to support your points.
