How are the placements of B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT, Guwahati?

IIT, Guwahati has a dedicated training and placement cell which manages to invite and attract a large number of companies mostly IT companies but that is seen in every engineering college these days. Few companies that make rounds during the placement season at IIT Guwahati are:- BeeHyv Software Solutions Pvt.Ltd, CA Technologies, Citrix Credit, Suisse Business Analytics, EIL, EMC Data System Private Limited, Futures First, Grail Research, Headstrong India, Qualcomm India Pvt. Ltd., RIL, Schlumberger, SourceBits, Tejas Networks, Airvana Networks India, Fair Issac, Irunway, LMS Emmeskay Solutions Pvt. Ltd. With an undergraduate program from IIT, Guwahati in mechanical engineering one can expect an average package of Rs 8 lakhs and above but this does not ensure placement into core mechanical company. One needs to complete his master's program like many other IIT students for getting into core mechanical companies and having a placement package of not less than Rs 20 lakhs. Hope this helps.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is one of the best government colleges in India and it ranks in top 5 colleges of India. Placements of B.Tech in mechanical engineering from IIT Guwahati is very good as many of the core companies related to mechanical engineering comes to the placements. It is all the work of placement cell of IIT Guwahati which attracts many large companies or major companies of India and of abroad. It has to offer many courses out of which Mechanical engineering course offered by IIT Guwahati has about 80 seats to the students. It also provides the most important thing required nowadays is hands on experience what practical knowledge with theoretical knowledge. IIT Guwahati is known for its infrastructure and knowledgeable faculties with about 5 to 10 years of experience teaching in college. Facilities provided by the college are really good like Wi-Fi Sports Complex and labs with better equipments and machines. IITs are the premier engineering institutes. IIT-Guwahati is one of the old IITs and lakhs of students try to get admission here every year. According to the National Institute Ranking Framework, IIT-Guwahati ranks 7th among all engineering colleges in India which is a pretty good rank. Mechanical Engineering at IIT-Guwahati is pretty good. For Mechanical Engineering, in 2015 out of 76 students who applied to placements from the Mechanical department, 57 students were placed meaning 68 percent placement for Mechanical which is an okayish impressive number. The average salary was around 7.4 LPA and the maximum salary was around 15 LPA. All these figures suggest pretty good placements at IIT-Guwahati. As we all know, IIT Guwahati is one of the best engineering colleges in India. The department of mechanical engineering there established in 1995, has been recognized the world over for excellence in research and academics. This makes it obvious for the best recruiters to visit the campus. To give an idea, here are a few names- Absolute Data, Impetus, Power Alstom, Energo, Induslogic, PWC, Altair, Evalueserve, Infosys, Qwest Telecom, Ashok Leyland, EXL Service, Ingersoll Rand, RIL, Bosch, Fluent, ITC, Capgemini, I Fluidyn, L & T, Tata Motors etc. Apart from these PSUs like BHEL, SAIL, and IOCL also recruit from IIT Guwahati. Around 74% students get placed every year and the average package is about 12 lacs per annum. The highest package in core sector can reach up to 40 lacs per annum.

The placements at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati are one of the best in India. There are various companies with their respective salaries and positions and the package ranges from 4.5 LPA to 60+ LPA. The companies which visit the campus are as follows: Induslogic PWC Ashok Leyland RIL IOCL SAIL BHEL Ispat Industries ISRO Shell Bosch Sterlite Technologies John Deere L&T Tata Motors Capillary Tech FMC Tech GAIL Mahindra Coal India Ltd. GE Metlok Thermax Ltd. TVS Motors Godrej HAL Hero MotoCorp NTPC HLL DRDO HPCL You, therefore, have nothing to worry about, as far as placements are concerned, as these are not all the companies which come for placements.
