2 years agoAccording to UGC regulations and recent open job postings for VC, VCs are anticipated to be: (a) A visionary with demonstrated leadership ability, administrative skills, and credentials in teaching and research. (b) Possessing an exceptional academic history overall and having at least ten years of experience as a professor in a university system or in a comparable position with a reputable research and/or academic administration organisation. Candidates need to have a Ph.D. from an accredited university in order to be professors. (c) Be under 65 years old as of the deadline for submission of applications for this advertisement. -
As per the UGC guidelines and recent open advertisements for VC, VC is expected to be: (a) A visionary with proven leadership qualities, administrative capabilities as well as teaching and research credentials. (b) Having outstanding academic record throughout and a minimum of 10-year experience as a Professor in a University system or in an equivalent position in a reputed research and/or academic administrative organisation. This a very interesting query to say the least.
This question has been debated, discussed, referred to committees, but still eludes a firm answer. As a result, many a times political appointments are made that may turn out to be good or bad depending on happenstance.
In India, there are universities called central universities whose chancellor is the President of India and on the other hand there are universities controlled by States and as a result, their chancellor is the Governor of the state.
