This is a common question for every engineering graduate from an average college.
They mean a good company by the salary package which they receive and the company's reputation too.
First of all, it is not that everyone in a premier institution would get placed in a top company with a huge salary. It depends on a student's skills and knowledge though marks are secondary.
It is advisable to do a postgraduate study from top institutes like IITs, BITS, etc., by clearing the entrance exam conducted by them.

It will be extremely important for you to secure good rank and grades in your institute to compensate for the ranking of your engineering college. In addition, please work with your campus recruitment/industrial relation team to invite the companies of choice with strong justifications on why should they visit your college for recruitment and if that is not sufficient then apply to your chosen companies with a strong and compelling covering letter.

This may be the question of more than ten lakh engineers currently looking for jobs in India and I personally feel that I am the right person to answer this question as I have done research on companies and placement methods.
Studying from an average engineering college means that you will not get an outsatnding and genius minds as your peers as one expect before the declaration of JEE Advanced results, but to get a job abroad, my frank advice is that you should isolate yourself from everyone and try to focus more towards your skill building. I have not emphasized on academics.

First of all, you should focus on your undergraduate score, and make sure that even from an average college, you meet the minimum standards laid down by the company. Now, an average college has nothing to do with the skills of an individual and skills is what is asked when if you want to work for a company.
Start from small. Grow, acquire certain skills that are necessary for growth in the respective fields, or develop skills related to hot topics in your areas of interest.
