How can I get placed in a good company studying from an average engineering college?

Getting placed solely depends on your performance in academics added with how much domain knowledge you have which can be applicable in industries to fetch business results. Your business analysis acumen is widely sought out, which if focussed can guarantee sure-shot good job from top MNC and Conglomerate. It is sheer persistence, hard work, self-belief, and passion which makes the student the best and confirms his seat in a good reputable company with abundant opportunities. Moreover, if your college is average you can add weight to your resume by the development of Internship experience, International immersion industrial visits, some co-curricular certification which proves your ownership and soft skills, added with technical certification such that you're updated with latest technology development. Top colleges definitely hold an edge over others, but even students from such colleges get meager placements for their lack of efforts and improper domain knowledge and understanding of fundamentals. N first one, at least one good company visits your campus. In this case, you need to make sure you are among the top 3-5 of your batch to get selected by the company. You also need a strong understanding of fundamentals of the subjects and skills related to the field. If no good company comes to your campus then you have to rely on networking. Start forming your network on sites like LinkedIn from start. Try and get internships from well-reputed companies. Perform well at those internships. As I already mentioned, develop your skill set. For example Auto-Cad or Solid-works for mechanical engineers or C+, Python for CSE engineers. Make sure you become better than everyone else in some particular sub field/ sub-branch then you would have better chances of getting placed.

Hello, This is a common question for every engineering graduate from an average college. They mean a good company by the salary package which they receive and the company's reputation too. First of all, it is not that everyone in a premier institution would get placed in a top company with a huge salary. It depends on a student's skills and knowledge though marks are secondary. It is advisable to do a postgraduate study from top institutes like IITs, BITS, etc., by clearing the entrance exam conducted by them. Though you have completed UG from an average college. You need to equip yourself with a lot of knowledge and information to crack those exams then only you can get placed in a top company. The another way to get placed in a good company is to update yourself with the latest trends and have a complete knowledge of them. It makes you stand out among your counterparts which paves a way for you to get a high-paying job. The certificate courses related to your stream (for example AutoCAD for automobile engineering) would also be of immense help for you in getting a good job. It will be extremely important for you to secure good rank and grades in your institute to compensate for the ranking of your engineering college. In addition, please work with your campus recruitment/industrial relation team to invite the companies of choice with strong justifications on why should they visit your college for recruitment and if that is not sufficient then apply to your chosen companies with a strong and compelling covering letter.

This may be the question of more than ten lakh engineers currently looking for jobs in India and I personally feel that I am the right person to answer this question as I have done research on companies and placement methods. Studying from an average engineering college means that you will not get an outsatnding and genius minds as your peers as one expect before the declaration of JEE Advanced results, but to get a job abroad, my frank advice is that you should isolate yourself from everyone and try to focus more towards your skill building. I have not emphasized on academics. Gain a good CGPA of above 9, 9.2 or 9.4, don't run for 10 CGPA as it will not give you much reward as compared to your efforts. Have fun, but please don't have distractions and if you find one, throw it out of your life. Always be energized active and confident for what you are doing. Take advice from everyone and be in touch with hardworking and corporative seniors. Fill the out campus forms for different companies and work on your speaking skills. First of all, you should focus on your undergraduate score, and make sure that even from an average college, you meet the minimum standards laid down by the company. Now, an average college has nothing to do with the skills of an individual and skills is what is asked when if you want to work for a company. Start from small. Grow, acquire certain skills that are necessary for growth in the respective fields, or develop skills related to hot topics in your areas of interest. And lastly, Be patient. Doors shall not open now, but certainly, the opportunities shall arise. And you have to make sure that when that door opens you have the skillset needed for the company. So, progressively how to get placed in a good company. First of all, get to know your areas of interest. See what in your branch intrigues you the most. Then check what are the hot topics in that area that are needed by the company or the growing sectors of job that are in current technology. Look for the internships in the same fields in some good companies. One of the good practice is to follow the people that have excelled in the fields that you are inclined to. You can also try to something I heard on a TED Talk, As Blind Mailing. Mail the people who have excelled in their respective areas.
