How is Economics course at LPU?

More broadly, an economics degree helps prepare you for careers that require numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills for example in business planning, marketing, research, and management. Economics helps you to think strategically and make decisions to optimise the outcome. Well, this programme is capable of opening new opportunities especially for the students who wish to pursue a graduate and higher degree in the field of Economics. This course also helps the students to gain knowledge in Accounting and Communication Skills which will act as a stepping stone for success. LPU Students are exposed to various fields like International Trade Policies, Economies of Education and Health, Public Policy, Global Development Dynamics. LPU Offering Pathways for: Civil Services, Corporate Jobs/Higher Education. LPU Students have the opportunity to do class assignments or dissertations by applying various statistical techniques. In addition to the regular course work, specially designed workshop courses are offered to promote practical implication of various courses which train students for research and other fields. LPU students along with the curriculum are exposed to the application of data analysis techniques using statistical software packages like SPSS, E-Views, etc. As per my knowledge, LPU offers B.Sc. Hons economics with 3 years course duration and M.Sc. Hons economics with 2 years course duration. Both these courses provide you a bright future. If we talk about career prospects, Economics is a good major because it allows you to enter several fields: entrepreneurship, finance, accounting, statistics, data analysis, and other related fields. Besides, Economic courses this course also helps the students to gain knowledge in accountancy, and communication skills which will act as a stepping stone for success The course highlights include :- Education is imparted under semester system for improved learning. Emphasis on Workshops, Seminars, and Case Based Teaching. Application-oriented assignments and examination system. The students are encouraged to undertake assignments/project work from the industry and work on finding possible solutions to integrate their theoretical knowledge with industrial practices. Application oriented assignments and projects based upon databases like CAPITALINE, online library database PROQUEST and JSTOR are undertaken to sharpen research and analytical skills. In addition to the regular course work, specially designed workshop courses like Workshop on data analysis using statistical software are offered to M.Sc. (Hons. ). Economics students to promote practical implication of various courses which train students for research and other fields. Active participation of students in various clubs like Markophiles, Finance, Odisha Club, Operations & IT, Strategy, Commerce, Economics, Society for Management Learning (Student organisation), etc. Is encouraged to expose them to broader competitions. Events like Open House Discussions on contemporary issues, Business quiz, Group discussion on current affairs, etc. Are organized by students and faculty managed clubs on regular basis. Economics students who have studied at LPU are working in reputed institutions like PwC, Doordarshan Kendra Meghalaya, The Telegraph, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority and that too at a very good profile. The department also has labs State of the Art Computer and Internet labs comprising 141 systems having OS Window 10. 36 systems having Windows 7 Ultimate @ 64 bit Service Pack 1 with the power of 4 GB Ram, HDD 1 TB, Processor i3-6100 @3.70 GHZ.
