Food quality at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NS-NIS) has been criticized very sharply. The athletes, including sprinter Hima Das, have faced problems with food, including bad hygiene, hair in the food, and even human nails in food. They have protested and complained to the Sports Authority of India (SAI). In this regard, SAI set up a Food Inspection Committee and formulated a Standard Operating Procedure to improve food quality. The athletes then observed an improved quality of the meals, indicating that their concerns had been met.
