Candidates with PCM of +60% in class XII English +50% in 10th or 12th; and who have cleared the Indian Maritime University CET-Examination are eligible for selection to this course. One Year Pre-Sea training (Semester I & II) leads to a Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS for Merchant Navy). At the commencement stage of the programme, a candidate is already selected by an international shipping company who will provide training-placement on board their ships at the end of the Semester II. Distance learning programme for Semesters III, IV and V are on the ship. Thereafter, the candidate completes a 6 months shore-based training for Semester VI. Clearing the written and oral examination at the end of Semester VI leads to a <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://B.Sc" style='word-wrap:break-word;'>http://B.Sc</a>. Degree in Nautical Science from IMU as well as a Certificate of Competency by the Director General of Shipping, enabling the candidate to sail on board ships as a certified officer This is just to reiterate that you must join a Institution which is approved by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India and the Indian Maritime University.
