I completed my 12th last year. Can you suggest a course for fashion designing and how to pursue it?

My elder sister has done Fashion Designing from LPU itself so there are certain key highlights.
You can pursue two programs in Fashion Design at LPU:
1) B.Sc. (Design - Fashion) 3 years. (6 Semesters)
2) B. Design (Fashion) 4 years. (8 Semesters)
The eligibility is pass with 60% aggregate marks in 10+2 (with English) or equivalent for both the programs. LPU is a highly practical oriented university, it offers the exposure to the latest equipment, software and technology .
Fashion designing emphasizes on the following traits :
1.Design Foundation :Full focus on the design aspect of all branches of fashion like Garments, Accessories, Crafts, Dyeing, Printing, Embellishments etc.
2.Skill Development:High focus on developing design thinking and intensive practical training through exploration of courses like Elements of Design, Design process, illustration, garment construction, design process etc.
3.Software Skills: Curriculum is equipped with 21st century digital technologies in design
4.Industry Immersion: Trainings, projects and guest lectures collaborated with industries help to learn from real life situations
5.Live Projects:Hands on experience by working on live projects to develop a sense of problem solving, critical thinking in order to gain real life understanding.
Different kinds of areas which could be explored in fashion Designing :
a)KNITWEAR DESIGN
The course shall equip students with understanding and application of photography in accordance to fashion industry
b) PERIOD COSTUME WORKSHOP
Develop period costumes for films, theater and other visual media.

Dear Aspirant, Admission in any programme depends on the Eligibility criteria to be qualified for that programme. There are two programmes being offered at LPU in Fashion Design. Programmes Available in Fashion Design. Sc. (Design - Fashion) 3 years programme and B. Design (Fashion) which is a 4 years programme. As you have completed 12th last year, it seems you are quite passionate about fashion designing. Then you must opt it quickly. Since it has a huge scope in India & outside of it. Although it's interesting too. There are many Top Colleges for Fashion Designing. Arch College of Design & Business is the best one among them. As of now, its very late for admission. You can pursue B.Des or B.Sc. or Diploma course in fashion from so many reputed colleges in India.

There are various courses under fashion designing that you can choose according to your interest. But amongst them some courses require 12th level maths. So firstly decide which course do you want to pursue. If you were maths side then you can go for any course like automobile designing, graphic/animation designing etc.
But if you weren't from maths side too you have many options like fashion designing, fashion communication, apparel /product/ glass and ceramic/ jewellery /footwear/ accessories designing and much more.
Once you decide the course give NIFT entrance exam because it will give you a good future.

Hi Abhishek, Quality of Fashion Design speaks itself that I am better than best at IIFT AIFD, NIFD and LPU. All are equally good but there is no comparison among LPU and other private Universities. LPU is best and promising and trustworthy also for this programme. Generally take it as an opportunity to read in the Newspapers for the achievements and accolades of School of Fashion Design, LPU.
