Scoring 540 marks in NEET UG is a solid achievement, and whether you can secure a seat through a linguistic quota depends on a few factors:Scoring 540 marks in NEET UG is a solid achievement, and whether you can secure a seat through a linguistic quota depends on a few factors:
1. Linguistic Minority Quota:
Availability: The linguistic minority quota exists in some of the states and in institutions that are established to accommodate only the linguistic minority. These institutions set up aside some space for students from definite linguistic minority groups.
Eligibility: There is a requirement that the student should be from the linguistic minority that is recognised by the institution or the state in which the student applies. Some of the more familiar first language minority is Tamil, Telugu, Kannada etc. Depending on the State.
2. Factors Influencing Admission:
Cut-off Scores: Linguistic quota is not the same for every state or institution or year because it depends on the number of applicants and competition, so the cut-off scores may be different. A score of 540 is fine, maybe passable but note that the cut-off score is the determining factor in competitiveness.
State and Institution: The chances of securing a seat through the linguistic quota also varies with the state you are applying from and the institutions offering the seats under this category. Competition varies from one state to the other depending on the level of competition of the investors.
Reservation Policies: Certain states can even have a two set of reservation policies say domicile reservation, category reservation (for SC/ST/OBC etc.), thus could have an impact.
3. Steps to Take:
Research Institutions: List down the colleges that provides seat for those belonging to linguistic minority in your state or the state you prefer to study.
Check Previous Year Cut-offs: This includes all the above plus other quotas kept by the institution and therefore you should look at the previous year’s cut off marks for the linguistic quota in those institutions.
