I shall not give you a judgement about the same but will try to explain both sides.
Suppose you do B.Sc IT, the positive side is that, it's a 3-year course, not done through JEE type tough entrances. It has limited syllabus and specialisation in IT and Computer Sc.
Now, let me tell you the risks involved:
    1. B.Sc is less preferred by employers when B.Tech is available in abundance.
    2. B.Sc gives less technology exposure than BTech.
    3. It is of 3 years, whereas, B.Tech is 4 years, so the validity of B.Tech is more for higher studies abroad.
Still, I shall say that if you cannot do B.Tech, then B.Sc is not a bad option.

Yes, of course, they are right, as in today's world everyone is doing computer courses and everyone is perfect in using computer.
Only doing B.Sc with computer will not take you to the bright and wealthy future. For a healthy and wealthy future, you must do something different even if you want to do B.Sc, do with some tricky and good subjects like microbiology pathology, etc., which will give you a new option for your career.
    Best of luck.

They are right because simply doing B.Sc computer science, is not enough in today's competitive world. In fact, the only graduation in any stream is not enough. You have to do PG, and then you will have an awesome future. Computer science is a stream which will always be there and never die. But, it is crucial that you do PG, and keep updating your knowledge by checking out the latest technologies.
