Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU) is a state (government) university. Act 7 of 2008, the State Legislature of Delhi, established this institution as the first Pharmacy University of India. It is a state university with the authority to regularly grant degrees in accordance with the UGC's guidelines through its own departments and constituent colleges in accordance with Section 22 of the UGC Act 1956. The University Grant Commission (UGC) recognises the university in accordance with Section 2f. Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) created the Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU). It was established in 2008 by an Act of the Delhi Legislative Assembly with the intention of advancing academic and research excellence in the pharmaceutical fields. It was established by the State Legislature of Delhi through Act 7 of 2008 and is recognized under 2f and Section 22 of the University Grants Commission (UGC). DPSRU is the first Pharmacy University in India and the third in the world. The Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research, affiliated with the University of Delhi, was renamed in 2004.
