Mechanical engineering. Department has one of the best infra, labs and faculty. All the students of the final year batch are placed in reputed companies. Students not only excel in studies but their personality is groomed through more than 15 clubs. Student Projects conducted in Labs set up by Mitsubishi & Royal Enfield and SAE club train them to work in industry and research.

The Department aims to produce quality professionals in Mechanical Engineering to compete globally and excel by carrying out basic and applied research in emerging areas by forging strong industry-institute cooperation. The department has well-equipped labs which are regularly upgraded and modernized with the latest equipment and software for CAD, CAM and other areas. These labs facilitate hands-on experience on an Automobile engine. The student has to work on various activities like dismantling overhauling and assembling of an engine which is the example of the way in which education is imparted to the students. Vivekananda conjurers is VITs official Baja Racing team of Mechanical Engineering Students which participates in various Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Events.It has an SAE Collegiate Club comprising of 50+ students from all four years who volunteered their time and talents to conceive the design and build small scale All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV ) for SAE events with the help of Faculty Members. The Department has been able to attract numerous prestigious research and infrastructural grants in recent years from agencies such as AICTE, DRDO, DST, UGC. Most of people lured by computer Science today due to start-up hype, well Mechanical Engineering is an evergreen branch and it will always sustain.
