Is it true that the IIM looks for a diversified profile? Which degree should I go for in graduation?

IIMs offer MBA program which involves a lot of peer to peer learning and it prepares students to enter into the corporate or business world. Diversity is considered important today in corporates as well feeding into the diversity agenda of IIMs apart from their own objective of having diverse students to foster a good learning environment. IIMs do consider academic diversity as a factor for shortlisting and further selection. This is considering that the CAT score and past academic score in class 10th, 12th and graduation are comparable to other candidates who have a background in engineering which is the most prevalent graduate degree in India. Thus, considering all these criteria, it's important to choose a graduation degree that you are interested in, otherwise, you won't be able to perform well. The selection process also looks at your motivation to choose a graduation programme and your grasp of concepts learned. Also, if you are planning to gain some work experience before MBA, it's important to choose something that interests you rather than getting into IIM as a criteria for your decision. This is just a small factor as reflected by the high proportion of engineers in IIMs. Think well and choose wisely. All the best.

Yes, a person with an MBA degree is not only somebody with excellent administration skills but also a good communicator and seller. He needs to interact with different types of people and do a different kind of jobs. He may be a Finance Officer or Financial Manager Financial Analyst Hotel or Motel Manager Human Resources Director or Manager Management Analyst Management Consultant Marketing Director or Manager. So to be anything, you need to be anybody. In the present scenario, most of the applicants are engineers from different institutes including IITs. They want to do MBA to brighten their career prospects but colleges need all type of students. They also need people from arts, science and of course commerce background. You should go for a degree that interests you. I cannot emphasize enough. But if you don't have any preference then I would suggest a BBA or MBA in operations.

Yes, it’s true. If want to get into IIMs you can do any degree but should be prepared for CAT exam. Indian Institute of Management is of one the best B-schools in the world. Some of the major difference you can see when we compare IIMs and B-Schools are: 1. Faculties- Almost all the faculties of IIMs are very highly experienced and have better knowledge of how to manage MBA students. They provide right guidance and quality advice during the course of study. 2. Strong brand name of IIM helps attract international and national organization to make tie-ups with IIMS. 3. Placement- In a normal campus the maximum package might be 11 or 12 lakhs but in IIMs majority of students will get 11 to 12 lakhs per annum in average. 4. Case study oriented education helps students gain more skills and industry knowledge. In these ways IIM is different from other top B-campuses.

It is true that IIMs give some points for diversity point during admission. The thing is that most of the students applying and getting admitted to IIMs are engineers, so to improve the diversity of diversity in classes and campuses IIMs give diversity some weightage. But it doesn't mean you should choose a degree depending upon that. Even though there are diversity points for non-engineers, still high percent of students admitted are engineers. So if you are interested in engineering then go for it. But if you are thinking of IIM from 10th or 12th itself it means you are genuinely interested in marketing/finance. If you are interested in finance you can go for commerce. You may do B.Com or CA. There are many other options available. Marketing doesn't depend much on prior stream. So go for the stream which interests you the most.
