Is LPU a deemed University? Is it recognised by UGC and AICTE?

Lovely Professional University (LPU) was created under the Punjab State Private University Act 2005. LPU is recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC), under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. As per Hon'ble Supreme Court ruling AICTE approval is not required for a university to run a course in technical education.

LPU is a full fledged independent university approved by UGC. In addition to it, LPU is also affiliated with the Distance Education Council. In addition to it, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and the Council of Architecture (COA) and approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). LPU was the first university to get an approval from ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research). LPU has ACBSP accreditation as well as holds an affiliation with Bar Council of India (BCI). .

Dear Happy, Yes LPU is UGC recognised and does not require AICTE approval since it is already approved by UGC, a statutory body of the Government of India. This is because universities do not require AICTE approval compulsorily. AICTE approval is not required for a university to run a course in technical education as has been held by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in its judgment CWP2056 of 1999 titled BHARATHIDASAN UNIVERSITY & ANR. V/S ALL INDIA COUNCIL FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION & ORS, and various other cases UGC-approved is better as it will be internationally recognised. AICTE is some kind of government recognition but it will have no reciprocal approval internationally. AICTE Approval is used to be deemed universities as a money-spinner for the colleges. The Universities established by an Act of Central or State Government are valid Universities. Degree awarded by a valid University and specified by UGC under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956 is recognised, subject to the approval of the programme by the concerned Statutory Professional Council (s), wherever applicable. N India, LPU is recognised by the University Grant Commission (UGC), the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), and the Council of Architecture (COA) and approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Yes LPU is a deemed university. Only when the course is run by an institute does AICTE approval become necessary. However, because LPU is a full-fledged UGC-accredited institution, it does not require AICTE permission. Every year, around 550 companies come to campus to participate in such programmes and recruit LPU students. This year, more than 650 placement/internship drives with prominent industry giants have already been conducted for the 2020 graduating class (more than 90 percent being MNCs). All deserving applicants from all courses are offered placement possibilities at Lovely Professional University. It is up to the student's abilities to take advantage of the chance. In a recent announcement by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of india. LPU surpasses most of the IITs and central universities in outreach and inclusivity parameters. LPU is Rank Amongst TOP 10 institutes of India in NIRF 2020 overall ranking. LPU is ranked 99th in the most Crucial overall category of The NIRF 2020 ranking. LPU is ranked 78th in the University category and in Respective disciplines LPU is 4th in engineering. 11th among all government and private universities. 13th in management. And 22nd in pharmacy.
