Is passing the AIBE exam necessary?
-
All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is conducted by the All India Bar Council Examination. This exam is for law graduates wanting to practice in the Indian courts. Aspirants who have completed 3-year and 5-year LLB are eligible to take the examination. Candidates are issued a Certificate of Practice (COP) after clearing this examination, which makes them eligible to practice across Indian courts.

If you are planning to pursue your career in litigation as an advocate anywhere in India, then it is mandatory to crack this exam eventually. BCI has clarified that candidates who have been enrolled with the State Bar Councils are eligible to appear for AIBE.

Yes, as per Bar Council of India regulations, for the students who passed their LL.B. (Legum Baccalaureus) degree from 2010 onwards, it is now mandatory to clear the All India Bar Examination to practice law in India. The state bar councils also ensure that the enrolled lawyers appear for the All India Bar Examination and pass the examination. If any enrolled lawyer fails to pass the bar examination then they are debarred from the councils or associations until they pass the exam. For more information, you may visit the Shiksha AIBE exam page. (https://www.shiksha.com/law/aibe-exam). I hope this will help you.
