Is there any scholarship exam available to become an airline pilot? Does any pilot training school offer scholarships?

Training to become a pilot is obviously an expensive task. Hence scholarships and freeships help the candidate to offload their financial burden. In India, government flying clubs support schemes which are offered by various government institutions who finance loans for candidates who are looking for CPL training. For general category candidates, who fall under a certain defined value of family income, Nagar Nigams have schemes for freeships are loans. For those who belong to the Other Backward Castes, Schedule Tribes and Schedule Castes, their respective commissions have schemes to offer loans, scholarships and freeships to candidates belonging to their respective commissions. Under such schemes, the funding is provided by the authority directly in the name of the flying schools where the candidate has enrolled himself. Hello, Commercial Pilot is a profession where salaries are expected to be very high. In addition, the course involves extensive flying which in itself is very costly. Typical course fee in flying training schools run into tens of lakhs. Thus, scholarships too should be in this region. Now again, fundamentally scholarships are given to poor students who cannot afford the cost of college. But then when this cost is in tens of lakhs hardly any philanthropists will come forward to offer a scholarship to this course which is considered for elites. However, everything is not lost. These days banks do offer education loans and I am sure they will definitely give it to a student who is joining a flying school since chances of recovery are quite good. Be that as it may, some flying schools could offer scholarships in some form or the other to a few candidates maybe to just show off their magnanimity.

The job of a pilot is to fly an aeroplane and for joining this course, students need to get a license after completing the pilot training. They also offer scholarship programs to students who want to join this field. All India Pilot Challenge exam is for students who want to get scholarships in this field. The exam is organized every year in the seven major cities of India in the last week of July. This is a national level exam organized by Delta Flight School and offers scholarships to 120 students. Students who have completed their class 12th in any subject with at least 50% marks can apply for the exam. There is a written exam for all the candidate who has applied for the scholarship and there is no charge for the exam. Through the exam, 200 students are selected on the basis of marks in the exam. These 200 students are called for the interview and pilot aptitude test and top 120 students on the basis of the overall result are chosen and they are awarded the scholarship program. These top 120 students who qualify the exam will get sponsored for Commercial Pilot License by Delta Flight School. Value of this scholarship is Rs. 25 lakhs. As of today, there are no flying schools who offer scholarships for flying courses in India. With the price of fuel going up and overall expense for getting a CPL increasing day by day, it is not viable for a flying school to give concessions or scholarships to students, regardless of their academic prowess. However, a few states in India do offer grants and partial scholarships for a Commercial Pilot Licence course run by government institues like Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uraan Academy or IGRUA. But, students getting into aviation on that basis have to be aware that even after getting a CPL, the journey is just half complete. Nowadays, most of the airlines in India charge the potential candidates for Type Rating and that costs could go as high as the CPL course itself. So, even though a pilot can get sponsorship to get his CPL, he must be ready to spend another 25-45 lakhs INR for the type rating course with the airline he joins. One can always check with their respective state governments whether they are offering any grants or scholarships for the aviation sector.
