    Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai, is a private deemed-to-be university established in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College by G. Viswanathan. In 2001, it was granted university status by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development. Furthermore, VIT has been recognized by the Government of India as one of the Institutions of Eminence (IoE). It offers a wide range of programs including 66 Undergraduate, 58 Postgraduate, 15 Integrated, 2 Research, and 2 M.Tech Industrial Programmes.
