L.E student knows more about the particular subject or stream in comparision to the regular but
the overall (we can say all rounder) knowledge to regular student is more as they have studied all general subjects as phy., chem., maths, etc. twice and up to the certain depth as to L.E.
so both have its own importance,
as we can't have stomachache tablet(medicine) in headache

Limited number of institutes offering lateral entry is the only limitation that comes to my mind.

Lateral entry is subject to prior education in Diploma with respective specialization or BSc with Maths as a subject in Fisrt Year or Second Year or Third Year. Lateral entry assumes that candidate has already done his basic technical learning at his prior education and so First Year can be exempted and candidate can be admitted to Second Year Directly. I find this to be perfectly OK and geniune and logical. Rest of the syllabus is same for regular as well as Lateral entry candidates.

Suryap2012 i am completely agree with you. these are the only reasons u mentioned above the students go for diploma. otherwise the time frame for regular b.tech and LE b.tech is same but valuable or the preferable is Regular b.tech

I seriously doubt the basic premise that students opt for diploma as they want to make a head-way in their career. Rather for most of the students, it is either the financial problems or may be the student is not so good in studies which compel him and his parents to go ahead with Diploma option after 10th.

In my opinion there is no difference between lateral entry b.tech or the regular b.tech. after getting degree when both the student went for the job, both will have equal opportunities in the corporate world.
yes, diploma holder students face some type of difficulties in b.tech because they didn't read all the subject in detail in diploma specially they had problem with mathematics, that depends on the student caliber.

It is always good to do Regular B.Tech. There are big difference in attitude of persons having Regular B.Tech. and lateral B.Tech. It generally seams that student unable to take admission in B.Tech. through the entrance exams is opt the diploma courses and after diploma firstly try to take admission in B.Tech. if they are not able in same then they opt the job on diploma basis. I really don,t know about the private sector but in govt sector there are great difference between job and responsibilities of B.Tech holder and Diploma Holders. 10-12 years job experience is just treated as equal to fresher of B.Tech.
    Its my personnel observati

Regular Diploma or B.E or B.Tech is certainly better approach. Yes, if a candidate has already completed Diploma and now he is doing job, then he decides to pusue BE or BTech parallely thru part-time or distance learning then it is 'OK'. Similar argument stands for ME or MTech or MS after regular Diploma.
    1) First gain some basic level of technical education like Diploma in Engineering thru regular mode
    2) Thereafter, job + B.E. or only B.E. thru regular or part-time or distance mode is OK

Well in my opinion students should go for regular B.tech after completing their 12th, once they complete their B.tech then may look for a job as it will further enhance their career prospects.
