Given below are two statements:

Statement I : [ N i ( C N ) 4 ] 2  is square planar and diamagnetic complex, with dsp2 hybridizatin for Ni but [ N i ( C O ) 4 ]  is tetrahedral, paramagnetic and with sp3 hybridization for Ni.

Statement II : [ N i C l 4 ] 2 a n d [ N i ( C O ) 4 ]  both have same d-electron configuration have same geometry and are paramagnetic.

In light the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below

Option 1 -

Both Statement I and Statement II are true.

Option 2 -

Both Statement I and Statement II are false.

Option 3 -

Statement I is correct but Statement II is false.

    Correct Option - 2

    Detailed Solution:

      [Ni (CN)4]2

    CN is strong field ligand

    Ni2+=4s03d8

Here;  [Ni (CN)4]2 is square planar and diamagnetic.

    [Ni (CO)4]

Ni = 4s23d8Co is strong field ligand.

Here ;  [Ni (CO)4] is tetrahedral and diamagnetic

[Ni (CN)4]2 has 3d8 configuration while  [Ni (CO)4] has 3d10 configuration.
