Established in 1967, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Sardar Patel College of Communication and Management is an institution of pre-eminence in professional education in Delhi. Hello Umesh,
To take admission in Merchant Navy, you need to pass 12th in Science (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) with 1 year pre-sea training as a deck cadet.
You can also join it directly after B.Tech in marine engineering, mechanical, electrical, electronics & telecommunication, naval architect.
If you pursue B.Sc (Nautical Science) in the officer cadre, it will lead you to become captain after 5-7 years of experience.
Except marine engineering candidates, others have to undergo a 10 months pre-sea training which is offered by many institute and port trusts or recruiting company itself. After that you will be appointed as a 5th or junior engineer. It will take 5-7 years depending on your abilities to become 'chief engineer'.
I would suggest you to pursue B.Tech through later entry in the same. Please note that eligibility may vary institute to institute.

There is no question at all that if a course like B Tech can be pursued in distance. No program in engineering field can be pursued in distance. This is completely discarded by AICTE. Now, AMIE (India) is a certification like chartered accountancy and that is most suited for you. Remember, AMIE (India) is not a distance program but it is a certification and obtained just by examinations only. It is fully recognized directly by MHRD. You can take more information from the institution's website. It is obviously worthgiving and brings the laurels with it, like Chartered Engineer Certification, Membership & Graduateship in equivalence to BE / B Tech and even B Tech (Hons.) in England. Bingo!
