Eligibility:
-Physical requirements - Height for Air Hostesses - minimum of 157.5 cm and Flight Pursers 163 cm with proportionate weight.
-Graduates is a compulstion for international airlines in the age group of 19-25 years for training. Preference is given to Degree or Diploma holders in Hotel Management/Tourism.
-Female candidates from Home science background, fulfilling other requirements, are also preferred. International Airlines recruit flight attendant in the age group of 18-35 years.
-Good language, ability and proficiency in English, Hindi, a regional language and at least one foreign language are essential requirements for inflight crew members working for National or International carriers.
-Normal eyesight without glasses or a minimum uncorrected distant vision of 6/40 is acceptable.
-To pursue a career as a Flight attendant, there are many institutes offering courses in Cabin crew training .

Not all airlines require this as compulsion, however this at times can be a stated criteria in mostly international airlines & as they fly over international waters hence it could be required to know swimming in case of emergency.
If it is not set as a per-requisuite then it could be part of the training schedule where you will need to demonstrate that you can float and move around in the water (using a life jacket), as well as how to operate/board an inflatable raft. Pool events are done fully clothed (like you would be in an actual emergency). Even with that requirement, swimming isn't exactly a necessary skill (although it can be useful). The in the water training is more to get you familiar with procedures and make you more comfortable dealing with such a situation.
