first learn the vocabulary then implement those words in your spoken English then try to read as much as you can the interested topics to keep your focus on.
After vocabulary, learn grammar. You will perform well if you do that.

It actually varies from state to state and university to university. Some universities have separate entrance exams whose scores are counted for the admission. Some prefer Physics, Chemistry and Biology marks. It also depends on what course you are looking for, B.Sc or BE/B.Tech.
