Preparation requires combination of smartness and hard work. Do the right things to gain an edge over your competition:
*Get the right books for Prelims
*Start preparing at least 10 months before
*Solve past year questions to test yourself on regular basis
*Cover the scoring sections early
*Cover the syllabus strategically. Don't go for a "prepare all" approach for prelims
*Balance paper 1 and 2

For better job opportunity i will advise you to join MCA but do it only if you are good in mathematics because in MCA and MCA entrance you have to study maths as most Bsc IT student feel difficult to study maths so better think before making any decision.
1) Msc IT is two year course MCA is three year course
2) Msc IT focuse on various IT or Web related study with sort of programming where in MCA you have to learn so much of programming and Math.
3) I have also heard that from 2013 session BCA and Bsc IT student can take direct admission in MCA second year via lateral entry by which you can complete your MCA in only two years so better do some research about this.By this method doing MCA would be more preferable.
IN SHORT => Want to be programmer, go for MCA .
