Following are the eligibility criteria:
-Candidate should be an Indian citizen.
-Age Limit:
1. The age limit for General candidates is 21 to 30 years.
2. However for OBC, age limit is extended by 3 years.
3. In case of SC/ST the age limit is 21 to 35 years.
-Education Qualification:
The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification
-No of attempts:
1.General candidates: 4 attempts.
2.Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates: No restriction.
3.Other Backward Classes: 7 attempts.
Skills required:
-Civil servants are expected to show understanding of national and international affairs,and trends.
-Commitment to the governance of the nation.
-Making sound decisions.
-Ability to take orders and maintain the line of command.
-Good peoples skills.
-They need to have a good understanding of currents of thought, new discoveries, etc.
The Civil Services Examinations are held in two phases - the first is called the CSAT which replaces the Preliminary Examination (Prelims). This has 2 papers - the general studies and general aptitude paper.The second Main Examination (Mains). After that, there is the Personality Test or Viva-Voice before the final selection. Graduates can take the entrance examination.
