You should focus on CAT 2014 for an attempt. Well and good if you get a good score in 2014, but it will give you an idea as to which area you need to focus. If it's English and vocab, or quantitative skills. You can buy previous yrs test papers and start solving them. There are study materials available in the market by different institutes for CAT exams. Next year, you can join any of the leading coaching institutes. TIME and CL , to name a few. They conduct mocks which is very helpful in gauging your strength.

Generally, candidates join lateral B.Tech course after completing diploma in any engineering field to get direct entry into the second year. Degree course will open more career opportunities.
Procedure :
To take admission, there is Lateral Entry Entrance Test or LEET which is conducted at state level. Some colleges and Universities too conduct their own lateral entry tests.

Salary :
Salary depends on various parameters such as size of the organization, profile, qualification, experience etc.
But, to give you a brief idea, salary may range between 3, 00,000 – 8, 00,000 lakhs per annum.
The average salary offered to a fresh graduate computer engineer is Rs. 20,000/- per month or Rs. 3-3.5 lakhs per annum.
It also depends upon the company with which the candidate is associated. Some of the top companies such as Microsoft, Google, HCL, Infosys, Wipro, TCS and Mahindra offer a very high salary package.

Admission in First year is made on the basis of score in RPET/AIEEE. Student should have at least 45% marks in Physics, Math, and Chemistry/Computer science/Bio Tech. For taking admission in any of the Engineering branch, students are required to participate in counseling conducted by Board of Technical Education, Rajasthan. College and branch are allotted on the basis of RPET/AIEEE score and options filled by the student (AIEEE score is considered only for the students of other states). A student can also get admission in B. Tech course through management quota as 15% of the total seats in each branch can be filled by the college management directly. In this category, admissions are made on the basis of score in class 12th.
