Aircraft maintenance engineers ( AME ) work in the engineering and maintenance department of an airline to ensure the availability of a safe and airworthy aircraft for an airline.
2)
A course in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is not a degree but a license course and only those institutes approved by the DGCA can impart training in this subject.
This training course is rigorous and only a few institutes offer training on heavy aircraft and jet engines. Total training cost will be around 1.5 lakh.

Eligibility :
A student from the Science stream with a minimum of 50% (some institutes need 60%) in class 12th is eligible for a 3 year certificate course on aircraft maintenance engineering conducted by training schools approved by the DGCA.

After the successful completion of AME course you can appear and qualify for AMAeSI (Associate Membership of Aeronautical Society of India) which is fully recognized by Government of India/ State Government/ Union Public Service Commission/ GATE for MTech admission/ Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd/ Indian Airlines/ Air India/ BHEL/ DRDO/ NAL/ IAF/ Coast Guard/ Airline Industries/ Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi/ Madras Institute of Technology as equivalent to BE/ BTech (Aeronautical Engineering).

- There are many course options available after completing 12th in Science. You may opt for the one which matches your interest and skills as it will help you to achieve your long term career goal.
1) After 12th in Science if you have studied Biology, Physics and Chemistry, you may take up medicine, dentistry, agricultural science, dairy science or biological sciences (biochemistry, biotechnology). (ONLY if you fulfill the eligibility criteria).
2) If you have Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in 12th then, you may go for engineering courses such as civil, mechanical, electronics etc. (ONLY if you fulfill the eligibility criteria).
3) Apart from doing the degree level courses in science with the conventional combinations you can also choose degree courses in several emerging professional areas such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, computer, business administration.
4) You can also opt for courses outside the university stream such as hotel management, fashion technology, aircraft maintenance engineering, government accredited computer courses.
However, other than Science stream you may even explore the opportunities Commerce and Humanities offer.
- As far as scope and salary is concerned, it depends on you. If you have interest in the field then you may get promoted and enjoy the benefits with increased salary.
