Merchant Navy comprise of three major departments including administrative department but the most important departments are the Engineering Department and Navigation Department.
Being a Mechanical Engineer, you may join Merchant Navy as junior engineer/engine cadet.
To be eligible for the post of junior engineer/engine cadet, you will have to undergo a pre-sea course conducted by Marine Engineering Research Institute -MERI.
Further promotion will depend upon the performance in the examination conducted by Directorate General of Shipping.
