Now as you are in 5th Sem already so I'd suggest start studying your current syllabus seriously as GATE paper consists of 2nd sem-6th sem syllabus. Once you're done with it you can then revise your 2nd year syllabus.
If your stream is ECE then I can offer more information although I don't think I need to because you'll eventually find it somewhere on the web.

I can understand the kind of confusion you are in, but to be true first try and finalize you interest because if you are looking for B-tech only pvt colleges are possible and if still you want to take up a chance in some other career options then take a career counselling and try and get to know about other career options.
