For deploying u must know about the Web Server (Apache).
For knowing Web Server u must know a Server Side OS.
PHP is platform independent language it will run on any platform but it is ultimate if it is being used with Linux.
LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) is the ultimate combination now a days for getting Job. Which covers Linux Server Administration MySQL Database Administration with PHP coding Language completes as Web Developer.
