Hi , first of all i would like to appreciate you that you are so sure that u want to prepare for civil services because most people are confused till the final semester of what to do next after completing engineering GATE,MBA,Civil services,IES or other alluring options like campus placements,Metro Life etc.
Secondly,Since you are sure its the right time to start as we all know that civil services is one of the most competitive exams in india.To start with the prep before joining coaching classes you should explore about UPSC CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) .
CSAT basically comprises 2 sections
1. GS(General Studies)
2. Aptitude.
Before going to coaching classes you can go through last year papers of CSAT available in softcopy from www.upsc.gov.in (previous years papers section) just go through it take the feel.
Also initially you can buy a yearbook(India Year Book,Manorama Year Book etc. GS manual from TMH for General studies) & any book on aptitude like RS Agarwal,Arun Sharma etc.
Go through these books & Give some time to yourself once you are sure that yes you want to pursue it further you can join coaching by next year or by next to next year,1-1.5 yr coaching & test series would be sufficient for you to crack the exam.

Well NTSE stands for National Talent Search Examination.
National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national-level scholarship program in India to identify and recognize students with extremely high intellect and academic talent. Close to 1,50,000 students appear in this scholarship exam every year. The scheme is open to students of Indian nationality. Only students studying in Class X are eligible to appear for the selection process. As it is organized by an official body (NCERT), it is widely regarded by the Government of India as the toughest and most prestigious examination at high school level in the country. It helps students to proliferate their mental level and also helps them to sharpen their minds.
It's Syllabus is as follows:-
Stage-I : State level examination
The first level exam is the state level examination, which has two parts for nominating the required number of candidates for the second level test to be conducted by the DSERT.
Part-I: Mental Ability Test (MAT), and
Part-II:Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)(with questions on History, Civics, Geography, Economics, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology).
Students of any Board studying at any recognized school can participate. Those who get qualified an enter the Second Level National Exam. The results of the same will be out on March of the next year.
Stage - II : National level examination
Candidates acquiring more than the required percentage in the state level examination and standing within a specified number of top ranks (state quota) are eligible to appear for the national level examination (about top 4000 students from the entire country). The national level examination has two parts for nominating the required number of candidates for the interviews to be conducted by the NCERT in May:
