Physics, Chemistry and Maths are a must for any board you are studying in. And you shouldn't be waiting till after grade 12 for preparing for IIT, you should start straight away by looking at the content of the JEE examination and studying yourself/in a coaching class. Also, it is imperative you do extremely well in 12th boards as those scores along with your JEE Mains score will determine if you can appear for the second round of testing, I. e JEE Advanced. Good Luck preparing for them.

Frankly telling, it really doesn't matter much from where you've pursued your B.Sc. Degree. Not that one should totally ignore and take up admission in a college which doesn't even have basic infrastructure for providing quality education. But what I mean to say is, your Masters degree is more important and you should focus on your plans for pursuing Masters in Biotechnology (or M.Sc. Biotechnology) from a good university/ institute, later.

According to the eligibility criteria, it isn't necessary but a student from a non-maths background is at a significant disadvantage. IISER-K does not have a reliable system to conduct bridge courses for the affected students. Remedial classes are held sporadically and are not of much help as they're conducted at odd hours. As a result, the maths courses, while doable in the first year, prove to be a significant obstacle. In addition, the physics courses also use a fair bit of calculus that students with a pre-med background are not accustomed to. The Chemistry course in the second semester, Physical Chemistry, taught by Prasun Mandal
