Both colleges are almost of same level but infrastructure & campus wise SJBIT is better. Education, placements & other things are on par. Why don't you try to talk to few of students from both the colleges & get some first hand review? That will be the best idea.
Also talk to the students from the branch in which you are getting in to.
Wish you all the very best once again.

Hello,! Can I please know the category you belong to? Because a person of general category with AIR 53500 cannot get into any course at NITK, Surathkal. But a person belonging to the OBC, SC, and ST categories with an AIR of 53500 can definitely get into one of the branches for B.tech at NITK, Surathkal .

Helllo.! WIth an AIR of 53500 i think it'll be tough to get into NITK Surathkal, Mechanical, as the Closing rank last year for the home state OBC-NCL category was around 40000. However, i feel you can get into Civil,Chemical,Mining and Metallurgy for B.Tech at NITK Surathkal.
