To get into actuarial science you need to have a strong background in maths and statistics.
It is used largely in credit and insurance industries that need to use risk on an ongoing basis. The Actuarial Science examinations can be done through the ASI (Actuarial Society of India). Once qualified, most actuaries are employed by the insurance companies — national and multinational.
Eligibility Criteria :
A person is eligible to be considered for admission as student member if he / she satisfies the following conditions .
1. Should have completed 18 years of age
2. Should have attained anyone of the following Educational Standards
a. Passed 10+2 (H.S.C) or equivalent with at least 85% in Mathematics / Statistics
b. Graduate or Post Graduate in Maths/Stats/Econometrics

Career:
Actuarial Science is a promising field and just after clearing 3 to 4 papers, students are absorbed as trainees in the insurance and other Actuarial Science application companies.
According to IRDA (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority), every life insurance company should have a full-time appointed Actuary.
The LIC may require 200 more Actuaries in the future while private life insurance companies would require around 220 Actuaries. In the long run, at least six Actuaries will be required by every player in the private sector.

The admission process starts between march end and first week of april, with the registration of CET conducted by D.T.E., Maharashtra.
Candidates can apply to All India seats which are 15% of total seats i.e. 18 seats through percentile scores of any one or more from CAT/XAT/CMAT/GMAT/MAT/ATMA and CET.
visit dte.org.in/mba2014 for the entire admission process in 2014 and important dates.
Regarding applying through CMAT, all the colleges including JBIMS, that accept CMAT scores for admission consider best (or better) of the February and September scores.
Thus, you are free to take both the exams and the better of the two scores will be considered.
I'll advise you to take the September exam as its score will be declared before November.
If you feel you have achieved a great score in it, you wouldn't need to take the february exam.
But if you feel that you can improve your score by taking the february exam, you can still take it as the results of september exam will be declared before registrations of february CMAT.
