Oenology is a field of science which deals with the study of all aspect of wine and wine making. But the study is restricted to grape-growing and grape-harvesting which comes under a sub field of oenology called viticulture. The course of study in Oenology includes both indoor as well as outdoor characteristics of wine production.
Although no Indian university/institution offers a study programme in wine-making or wine-tasting, a degree in oenology or viticulture can get you started in the cultivation of grapes and the production of wine. Every state of the Indian Union has at least one agriculture university and most of them offer undergraduate and post graduation courses in horticulture with specialization in oenology and viticulture.
-Maharashtra has four agriculture universities in Dapoli, Rahuri, Parbhani and Pune.
-Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Aurangabad offers Post Graduate Diploma in Wine Technology. It is of one year duration. Students those have passed B.Sc. degree in Life Science, B.Tech. in Biotech/Food Tech. or B.E. in Biotechnology, Chemical, Biochemical engineering or B. Pharma are eligible to seek admission to this course.
