Dear Vivek,
Learning just java might not help.
You should also learn other technologies that are surrounding Java . This will enable to get the entire perspective of application development.
For example, if learning Java , learn MYSQL , HTML, javaScript, Jquery. And Frameworks like Spring,Structs2, Hibernate etc.
Happy Learning,

If you want your daughter to join a course this summer JAVA will be a better option rather than C/C+ because nowadays JAVA has a better and vast scope and the basic difference between JAVA and C/C+ is that C+ is platform dependent while JAVA is platform dependent thats why JAVA has a better and vast scope than C+. So better you let your daughter join Java not C+
