Hi Siddhu,
I can totally understand your dilemma in this case as I have been through the same.
Now, you need understand that there are two important things to consider while seeking admission.
(i) A branch of your choice but from a not so good institute = Not much value.

- Success Rate
- How old the institute is
- Batch Size
- Course details
- Faculty
- Infrastruc

The GK section can be broken into 2 subsections:
1. Static GK: It contains historic information like countries and capitals, currencies, events in freedom struggle, wars, inventions and discoveries etc.
You can use any good book of GK to prepare for this section as the facts remain the same and they usually don't need to be updated.
2. Dynamic: It is more related to current events like Academy Awards, Sports tournaments, Elections, Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions, Nobel prize, latest advertisements and taglines etc
You will have to regularly read newspapers to score well in this section.
Do check the exams that have a GK section.
