Yes, in Andhra Pradesh, if an Intermediate 1st year student fails in one subject, they can appear for supplementary (advanced) exams, but they are only required to write the failed subject, not all subjects.

However, the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh (BIEAP) also provides an option called "Betterment" or "Improvement". Through this:

• You can rewrite one or more passed subjects in the supplementary exams to improve your marks, in addition to writing the failed subject.

• But you do not have to rewrite all subjects unless you specifically want to improve them.

So in short:

• Failed in one subject? You write only that subject in the supplementary exam.

• Want to improve marks in other subjects too? ? You can choose to rewrite them under betterment.
