The most important thing to understand is that JoSAA counselling does not apply to private engineering colleges at all — it strictly manages admissions for premier government-funded institutions only. So if you are targeting private engineering colleges in Chennai like SRM, VIT, or Saveetha, you will have to go through direct admission, which means applying through state-level counselling like TNEA, the college's own entrance test, or management quota seats — all of which are faster but come with much higher fees and less transparency compared to the fully merit-based and government-controlled JoSAA process.
