The terms "supply chain" and "logistics" are often used interchangeably within the transportation industry. They are, however, distinct areas, each involving specific processes, duties and responsibilities. The confusion in distinguishing between supply chain and logistics might stem from the fact that logistics is considered by many people to be a subcategory of supply chain management. The main difference between supply chain and logistics is that logistics is merely a specialized part of the entire supply chain process.
Generally, logistics focuses on the actual transportation and storage of goods. It deals with things such as inbound and outbound freight, reverse shipping, communications during transit, storage and warehousing. Logistics also deals with the delivery of goods and freight, coordination among third-party carriers, fleet management and other activities directly related to the actual transportation of goods from one point to another. Depending on the needs of a particular company, logistics management might also encompass manufacture and packaging, price negotiation for different aspects of transportation, third-party integration and procurement, technology, communications and customer service.
For the most part, the supply chain encompasses a bigger picture. Supply chain management is the umbrella that covers all aspects of the sourcing and procurement of goods. Basically, supply chain management forms and manages the business-to-business links that allow for the ultimate sale of goods to consumers. Logistics, basically getting the freight from one place to the other, is a function that falls under the wide umbrella of supply chain management, but is only one part of the entire process.

Supply chain management is proving to be more appealing to people beginning their careers or looking for a change.
Supply chain managers can focus on designing, auditing, researching, analyzing, budgeting, forecasting, buying or planning functions.
However, the increasing ease of doing business online is having an impact on the supply management profession as markets take on a global scope.
Supply managers may be asked to find and evaluate international sources of supply and to integrate and coordinate requirements across the globe, so you may be expected to bring cultural understanding and language skills to your position.
* Salary :
Salary depends on various parameters such as size of the organization, profile, qualification, experience, etc.
But, still, to give you a brief idea,
In India, the beginners can earn between Rs 10000 and 15000 per month.
A person with two or three year experience may get around Rs 18000 - 25000 per month.
The salary package for those, who are working at the higher level, can easily be Rs 8.00 - 12.00 lacs per annum.

Eligibility- Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent in any discipline from a statutory university with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA. Candidates graduating by 30th July, 2014 can also apply but must prove their eligibility latest by 30th September, 2014.
a. Applicants seeking admission are required to have qualified in CAT 2013/MAT - February 2013 onwards.
b. Short-listed applicants only (on the basis of relative merit from received applications) will be called for: Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI).
c. Submission of application does not automatically qualify the candidate for GD/PI and no refund of application fee is permissible on any account.
d. The final selection will be based on the test score, language proficiency and performance in the GD & PI
