There is no disadvantage of pursuing B.Tech in a particular branch in the 2nd year because from the 2nd year only the particular specialisation study will start and in next 3 years you would obtain, skills, knowledge, internship, project work and mainly you will get the same B.Tech degree as awarded to the student who took admission in the first year.

You have asked a very interesting question. I know the students who quit immediately after getting admission in dental/medical and engineering colleges. You simply tell college that you are no more interested in pursuing the course and hence they should give you TC. If it's private college they may try to extract fees pertaining to all four years.
